Am I getting noticed in search results? – How “BERT” can help

People never get tired of using the Internet. Did you know that approximately 63,000 searches are conducted on Google every single second? For that reason, you need to make sure that you are at the top of search results now! Find out how we can help before you miss more customers…

“BERT” is an update from Google that has been worked on for the past year to help small businesses get noticed more often. The purpose of the update is to understand what you are looking for when you search on Google. What this means is that Google will start to take apart your query as a whole rather than individual words; hopefully personalising your results. This will help many businesses around the world since it helps them to appear at the top of search results related to their services. So, are you utilising this new resource to the fullest extent?

So how does this help my business?

Being at the top of search results is always a good thing for a business. It can help you to get noticed amongst the crowd of businesses just like yours, especially when paired with social media. How does this particular update benefit me? One example given out in the Google blog was this: imagine somebody is searching for whether or not you can pick up medication for someone else at a pharmacy. Before this update, you would get a result for a website detailing how to get a prescription from a pharmacy. After the update, you would get results for a website forum about whether you can pick up medicine for others. The difference is that Google now takes your search as a whole rather than multiple keywords. Therefore, you will get noticed for the service you provide that affect them; not just random services connected to your website.

What do I need to do to get the most from this update?

Not too much. The “BERT” update is an automatic change to the search results algorithms and therefore will sort itself out. However, there is something you can do to boost your chances of this update helping you a lot. Ensure that your website repeats the services that you provide and how you provide them. Also, make sure you don’t include anything on your website that isn’t overly necessary because this will prevent you from hitting the top of the search results. Why? To put it simply, Google still looks for keywords on your website regardless of search results. So, ensure that your services are clear on your website and not difficult for the algorithms to identify.
